CONSERVATIVE RESTORATION OF THE FACADE

The project aimed at the restoration of the architectural surfaces of the facade (plasters and stone elements) that were severely degraded, with the goal of re-establishing the unity of the ensemble while respecting the historical, material, and documentary evidence.

Operational Phases of the Intervention

1. Cleaning of Stone Surfaces
Intervention carried out using a low-pressure hot water pressure washer, aimed at the controlled removal of surface deposits, incoherent patinas, and accumulated dirt, while respecting the original material and its physical-mechanical characteristics.

2. Restoration of Plasters and Silicate Finishing
Restoration of degraded or missing plaster sections using mortars compatible in composition and granulometry, followed by silicate finishing applied in multiple layers to ensure color uniformity, breathability, and aesthetic integration with existing surfaces.

3. Verification and Securing of Decorative Elements
Detailed inspection of the stability of decorations and projecting architectural elements, with particular attention to portions subject to detachment or loss of cohesion.

4. Localized Structural Consolidation
Intervention on elements at risk of detachment through the localized insertion of fiberglass pins with enhanced adhesion and reattachment of stone parts using two-component epoxy resin.
Particular attention was given to the red Verona marble columns, which showed advanced degradation, cracking, and disaggregation.

5. Filling of Stone Surfaces
Execution of stuccoes and micro-stuccoes with lime-based mortars and marble powders, properly dosed and color-matched, to close lacunae and protect exposed edges.

6. Cortical Consolidation of Stone Surfaces
Application of ethyl silicate consolidant on all affected stone artifacts to restore surface cohesion and improve resistance to weathering, followed by a final protective treatment compatible with the nature of the materials.
