GRAFFITI CLEANING - REGIONE DI TABUK (KSA)

CONSERVATIVE RESTORATION OF PRE-ISLAMIC INCISIONS AND GRAFFITI

The intervention was aimed at the controlled removal of spray paints and recent graffiti from the historic surfaces, using laser technologies, micro-sandblasting, and tested chemical products, with the goal of safeguarding the original inscriptions and pre-existing reliefs.
The intervention also included protective treatments designed to preserve the surfaces, ensuring durability and reducing the risk of future acts of vandalism.

Operational Phases of the Intervention

1. Preliminary Analysis and Compatibility Testing
Based on the characteristics of the materials and their state of conservation, preliminary tests were carried out to identify the most suitable methods for removing paint deposits without compromising the original surfaces.

2. Removal Using Laser Technology
Controlled cleaning with high-precision laser for the removal of deposited pigments, operating with calibrated parameters to preserve the depth and legibility of the historic inscriptions.

3. Mechanical and Chemical Cleaning
Residual graffiti were removed through micro-sandblasting with selected abrasives and the application of specific chemical products, tested to ensure maximum effectiveness with minimal aggressiveness to the surfaces.

4. Surface Condition Verification
Continuous monitoring of the surfaces during the cleaning operations, checking the stability and cohesion of the original materials.

5. Consolidation and Final Protection
After the removal of deposits, suitable consolidating or protective products were applied to preserve the treated surfaces and reduce the risk of future vandalism.
